One of the ways Defence R&D Canada fulfills its mission to ensure that the Canadian Forces remain technologically prepared and operationally relevant through its Research Technology and Analysis (RTA) Program.

The RTA Program addresses knowledge generation needs across the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces, explores and advances emerging technologies, and conducts targeted operational research and analysis to provide support to decision makers.
The RTA Program is carried out by two interconnected research mechanisms:
Applied Research Program
The Applied Research Program is a Defence R&D Canada program designed to advance the defence science knowledge base, investigate novel and emerging technologies, and explore the military application of those technologies.
Technology Demonstration Program
The main objective of the Technology Demonstration Program is to impact future defence capabilities by demonstrating the military utility of emerging concepts and technologies.
